Regional families

Early Verín · da Costa–López families

A selected scholarly reconstruction, not a complete census or a new transcription of the Inquisition manuscripts. Birth years follow the 2022 article, with differences from the 2013 book disclosed. Migration dates remain approximate; only the three eldest López sons are linked to the Jesuit college. Violante’s proposed motherhood of Lorenzo is excluded from the normal pedigree. No relationship to the Tamaguelos apprenticeship family, the later Verín–Chaves households or our own family is established.

The displayed dates follow the 2022 article. The 2013 book instead gives Antonio c. 1577, Gaspar c. 1579 and Duarte c. 1595; this publication difference is retained rather than silently merged.

Record

Early Verín families · Schreiber (2013)

Markus Schreiber, Marranen. Eine Familie im Schatten der Inquisition, 1497–1688 (2013), pp. 69–75, 92–95

Selected family relationships from Schreiber’s 2013 book, checked in its author-hosted searchable text. The underlying manuscripts were not independently transcribed. Approximate settlement and marriage dates remain qualified; Lorenzo’s possible descent from Violante is a hypothesis. The 2022 article supplies the preferred López children’s dates where the publications differ.

Markus Schreiber, «Realidades conversas. Andrés de Fonseca y su familia», Sefarad 82:1 (2022), pp. 57–96

Family reconstruction on pp. 62–69, checked in Schreiber’s author-uploaded full text; CSIC supplies the publication record. Notes 16, 26, 28 and 35–39 cite AHN Inquisición 2042/39 and 2042/41, Cuenca Inquisición 418/5868 and 487/6536, and Portuguese records. These are published source references, not claims that this project has read every original folio. Approximate dates retain their qualification.
