Santiago autos de fe, 1608–1610 · secondary list

The secondary list calls Leonor Gómez the widow of the lawyer Marcos López, who is himself listed at the 1610 auto.

The list calls Ana Mena the wife of Duarte Coronel and says he was denounced, among others, by his wife.

The list calls Beatriz Méndez the wife of the councillor Xoán López Hurtado, and his own entry names his wife Beatriz Méndez.

The list calls Susana Vázquez the wife of Xácome de Oliveira.

The list calls Inés Díaz the wife of Diego Díaz.

The list calls Xinebra Vázquez the wife of Pedro Fernández “the old one”. The Cámara case instead names his wife as Inés [Rodríguez?]; the conflict is unresolved.

The list calls Fernando Méndez, aged 23, a son of Felipe Álvarez.

The list calls Gaspar Álvarez, aged 20, a son of Felipe Álvarez.

The list calls Antonio Méndez, aged 21, a son of Felipe Álvarez. Felipe’s own entry speaks of four imprisoned children without naming them.

The list calls Simón Pereira the son of Antonio Pereira, salt administrator.

The list calls María Vázquez the widow of the merchant Lucas Rodríguez.

The list calls Isabel Rodríguez, aged 15, a daughter of Fernando Álvarez “the old one”.

The list calls Felipa Rodríguez, aged 17, a daughter of Fernando Álvarez “the old one”.

Isabel Rodríguez was denounced by her mother and taught by her mother and grandmother; Catalina de León’s entry says she taught the law to her daughters.

Felipa Rodríguez is listed as Isabel’s sister; Catalina de León’s entry speaks of her daughters.

The list calls Catalina de León the wife of Fernando Álvarez “the old one”.

Felipa Rodríguez’s entry calls Isabel her sister.

The list calls Isabel de Morais a daughter of Xerónimo Morais. Linking this to the Xerónimo de Morais sentenced in 1608 is an editorial reading of the same list.

The list calls Isabel de Morais the widow of the scribe Antonio de Sousa.

The list calls Gracia de Sousa the wife of the merchant Antonio Vázquez, who denounced her.

The list calls the deceased Alonso Rodríguez de Morais the father of Xerónimo and Antonio de Morais.

The list also calls Alonso Rodríguez de Morais the father of an Antonio de Morais, but three different Antonio Morais appear in it (a merchant of Mirandela aged 36, “the walker” aged 43, and a blacksmith). Which one is meant is unresolved.

The list calls Antonio Pereira the son-in-law of a reconciled Pedro Fernández without saying which; it lists both “the old one” and “the young one”. The Cámara case names Pedro Fernández el viejo.

The list calls Blanca Vázquez the wife of Fernán Xerónimo.

The list calls Ana Méndez the wife of the deceased Gonzalo Vázquez.

Both sources name a Fernando Álvarez el viejo of Ribadavia whose wife is Catalina de León and whose daughter is Felipa. The match supports, but does not prove, one man.

Catalina de León is Fernando el viejo’s wife and Felipa’s mother in both sources.

The Cámara case names Felipa, daughter of Fernando el viejo and Catalina de León; the list names Felipa Rodríguez, aged 17, daughter of Fernando el viejo. The surname appears only in the list.

Both sources name a reconciled Pedro Fernández el viejo as Antonio Pereyra’s father-in-law. The sources disagree on his wife.

Both sources name Antonio Pereyra or Pereira as son-in-law of a reconciled Pedro Fernández.

The lawsuit’s Felipe Álvarez, apothecary of Ribadavia, and the apothecary Felipe Álvarez sentenced in 1608 share name, trade, town and a son Gaspar. The match is not proved by either source.

Both sources name a Gaspar Álvarez, son of Felipe Álvarez.

Alonso de Morais may be the Alonso Rodríguez de Morais whose memory was tried in 1609. If so, Fernando el moço and the councillor Xerónimo de Morais were brothers despite some thirty years between them; nothing in either source joins them.

Ysabel de Morais, reconciled widow of the notary Antonio Fernández Sossa, closely matches Isabel de Morais, widow of the scribe Antonio de Sousa, sentenced in 1609.
